This key artwork for "3D Sen" by Geod Studio was truly an exceptional challenge. "3D Sen" is not a game itself but an emulator that transforms classic NES games into 3D space (Yes, it sounds wild and it IS wild!). The first challenge was to find a way to communicate that concept. I chose to combine classic pixel artwork and a voxel interpretation of that same artwork with a magic transformational portal in between the two worlds. It was absolutely impossibly to accurately previsualize my idea (how do you "sketch" a pixel artwork or a voxel artwork?) and my color sketch looks accordingly. The client and I just had to trust the process. I then had to create a pixel artwork - something that I had never done for a key artwork before - and also recreate the scene in voxels for which I used Magica Voxel. Everything was put together in Blender and I rendered many different render passes that were then put together in Photoshop. It was a truly unique workflow for a unique product.
